During a post-doctoral fellowship at Relate, doctors will have a generalist training experience with the opportunity to work with clients across the life span who have a wide variety of presenting concerns. You would have the opportunity to provide individual, couple, family and group therapies depending on interest and client need as you work toward independent licensure.

During your 1–2-year post-doctoral fellowship at Relate, you will manage your own cases, including all aspects of clinical documentation, and you will experience the pace and typical daily life within a community mental health setting. Relate is a rare post-doctoral experience in that we provide many opportunities to work with children, adolescents, couples, and families in addition to adults. We also offer the opportunity to work exclusively with minors and their support systems if that is a specialty you hope to develop.

Relate additionally provides opportunities for training experiences beyond seeing your clients.  This can take the form of staff-wide training, topic-focused consult groups, or involvement in interest- or action-oriented groups.  For example, we have often had a staff engagement group, a BIPOC only consultation and support group, a reflective supervision consult group, a play therapy consult group, and an EMDR/ART consult group to name a few.  You are treated as staff during your fellowship and are welcome to participate in nearly all aspects of our clinic.   We also appreciate your knowledge base and expertise in your areas of specialty.  In the past we have asked post-doctoral fellows to lead consultation groups and to provide presentations to staff and community partners.

We work collaboratively with you to help you meet the Minnesota Board of Psychology requirements for licensure. Post-doctoral fellows typically work between 20-40 hours a week depending on their needs and preferences. We can offer fellowships lasting 1-2 years depending on the number of hours you work. Supervision typically involves at least 1 hour of individual supervision for every 20 hours worked each week with a primary supervisor who is a licensed psychologist. Supervision from a master’s level supervisor during multidisciplinary consultation is also possible if requested. Informal supervision is available and encouraged as needed.
