Relate Counseling Center is a community mental health center located in the western suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Relate Counseling Center provides comprehensive outpatient and co-located (e.g. early childhood programs, schools, and area food shelf programs) mental health services, including assessment, therapy, and psychiatric medication management for adults, adolescents, and children in individual, couple, family, and group formats.  Our goal is to provide high quality care, working collaboratively with each client.

Relate Counseling Center is committed to supporting therapy practicum students gain professional experience and a solid foundation of clinical knowledge.  Relate practicum therapists provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults with the goal of supporting and increasing a client’s sense of well-being through the management and treatment of emotional, mental, and behavioral issues.  Practicum therapists work collaboratively with all participants to develop an individualized treatment plan.  Common topics addressed in psychotherapy include, but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, family conflict and change, chemical use, trauma, emotional regulation, relational/relationship distress, school/educational issues, gender identity, and parent guidance.  Psychotherapy is provided in individual, couple, family and group formats.  In addition to case consultations and in-service workshops, practicum therapists complete diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries.  Practicum therapists participate in a comprehensive supervision plan including weekly provision of 1-2 hours of structured individual supervision and 2 hours of group supervision/case consultation.  Informal supervision and consultation is available as needed.


Applications for MA Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, PsyD, and Master of Social Work therapy practicums are accepted year round.  Therapy Practicums are a 9-12 month long experience. Extended practicums are possible.  Practicum start times are year round, noting most start in September, May, and January.
