Student Responsibilities

In order to complete their program successfully, students need to meet the following requirements:

Internship hours: With the exception of the Post Doctorate/Pre-License program, all internships/practicum require at least 500 hours per academic year (the beginning of September through the end of May), or over a 12 month time frame that includes the academic year. While 500 hours is the minimum, we prefer that students fulfill 600 hours. Post Doctorate/Pre-License students must fulfill 2000 hours over the course of one or two years (the equivalent of full time in one year or half time in two years). Post Doctorate/Pre-License students in the program can choose whether they prefer to fulfill the hours requirement over one or two years.

Weekly, on site supervision: Student will meet with an appropriately credentialed and licensed supervisor on a weekly basis.

Weekly meeting with the clinical consult group: Student will meet with Relate's multi-disciplinary team in a weekly consultation group.

Bi-weekly meeting in student supervision group: Opportunity for all interns to meet in their own supervision group. Intern supervisors rotate through the group throughout the year.

Relate's Responsibilities

During the course of the program, Relate will work on behalf of students in the following ways:

Field Instructor Relationships: The student's clinical supervisor will be in regular contact with the student's field instructor from their University. The supervisor from Relate will contact the field instructor as the school requires, and will complete all the written requirements for assessing the student’s abilities.

Ensure quality assurance: The student's clinical supervisor will be responsible for all quality assurance measurements.

Performance Measurements

The performance of students in the program will be measured by the following criteria:
  • A maximum of 50% client contact hours per week established by the third month of placement.
  • Current on all paperwork, including intakes, chart notes, prior authorizations, and termination summaries.
  • Quality of client care as determined through supervision, any client reports, the student’s own assessment of their services, and any collateral contacts that may be used in the provision of services (e.g. co-therapist report).
  • Any “extras” that the student brings to Relate (e.g. their own expertise in specific areas, educational presentations, etc.).
